Working from home

Inventory at Zewditu is officially finished! The last room was the OR, which is in near constant use, so we had to come back several times to get in. It’s a little sad to be leaving, but we’ll be back when we show them the completed database. Now we’re entering everything we wrote into our computers, and starting to look into the cost-effectiveness analysis I mentioned in my last post.

The baseline work is finding out how much each device is worth, which consists of lots of internet searches and browsing through manufacturer websites. The cost of the machine will factor into decisions on repair; more expensive machines may be repaired several times, while for a less expensive device it may be more cost-efficient to replace the whole unit.

This week has been super laid back, which is perfect because unfortunately Mel and I have been a little sick. Nothing beyond the expected traveler’s illness, but it makes sitting in an internet café much more attractive than crawling all over the place to label equipment! It’s also given us the chance to make friends with the cats at our guest house. Pictures of adorable kittens coming soon. At any rate, after a week of rest and bland food we’re both feeling much better and ready to get started on Ras Desta inventory next week.

Since there isn’t too much to write about this week, enjoy some random pictures I’ve taken of Addis during our stay here!
